“Movement, Color and Balance are the life of my acrylics, each painting explores how these dynamic qualities can interact with one another and create a sense of harmony.”

Acrylic Painter Jennifer Livia describes her work as “Color-Scapes” rooted in elements of nature focusing on how color interacts with one another through movement and balance.  She chooses to paint a wide variety of subjects, the two main bodies of work she is currently focusing are her “Local Color Scapes” and her “Galaxy Paintings.”  Her bold use of color and a sense of whimsy are the main elements that tie her wide variety of artwork together.

The Local Color Scapes are influenced by her natural environment living by the sea in central California.  These landscapes have a lush vibrant feel with flowing lines and soft movement, each exploring the environment focusing on both small elements that make the coast home and large landmarks that .

The Galaxy Series are inspired by Jen’s love of science, exploring the complex nature of the cosmos and the under sea terrain mixed with bold elements from the everyday world.  After studding the movement of the galaxy and the stars Jen became inspired to integrate some of the magic from space in with her acrylics.  The free flow of liquid acrylics, inks allowed for a magical mix of colors and spontaneous interactions that create a dreamy fluid exploration of textures.  Some of these paintings stand on their own as abstract space explorations while others she has added other earth elements.

The camera was her first tool as a kid to explore a variety of textures in nature and in the small details of the world.  While at UCSD studding Bio Chemistry Jen changed her focus to Photography and Painting and continued on to San Francisco Art Institute for her Masters in Studio and FIDM for a graduate degree in Media Arts.

Her passion for the arts led her to Ventura in 2006 where she helped found the Red Brick Gallery (along side her mother Phyllis Gubins) and has been heavily involved in the art community since them. Currently she is an art teacher and Co-owner of Red Brick Gallery and Art in Ventura where her work is on display and for sale all year long.  Her work is in the private home of hundreds of collectors across the country and exhibits at a wide variety of galleries throughout the US.

Jen’s has been selling her work since the late 1990's, her personal exhibitions include The de Young Museum in San Francisco, San Francisco City Hall, San Diego, Los Angeles, Tijuana “Border Hack,” Ventura and Modena Italy. Her work is in the permanent collection at the Galleria Civica, Palazzina dei Giardini in Modena Italy, The W Dallas Hotel, Tower 31 in New York, The Angelino in Los Angeles and Hotel Vitale in San Francisco.  Her work is always on display at Red Brick Gallery in Downtown Ventura and has recently been appointed to the City of Ventura’s Public Arts Commission and has been recognized with the Mayor's Arts Awards and Pacific Coast Business Time's "40 Under 40" awards.
