Mini Paintings and Cards
Saturday, March 1st 12pm - 3pm $70 with all supplies including mats, deckled watercolor cards. watercolor paper & deckled envelopes Learn how to save lots of money and create your very own personalized greeting cards. Translate the beauty of flowers, landscapes or seascapes into several expressive colorful greeting cards or mini paintings. A perfect and fun way to practice all the techniques and subjects you have wanted to paint without a huge commitment. You'll create numerous lovely greeting cards. This technique can become your daily warm-up, while you produce a very useful & appreciated piece of unique art to share with your friends and family. Numerous images will be provided for inspiration so drawing skills required. |

Sunday, March 9th 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting We will explore various techniques as we paint the sky with billowy clouds, the lighthouse, the rocks at the shore, and the sea's crashing waves and we’ll even add a few seabirds. Sea Turtle with Brusho for Beautiful Texture
Saturday, March 15th 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting In this class, we will be using several methods with QoR Watercolors & Brusho Powdered Crystals to create the appearance of the turtle’s varied textures. His skin, wrinkles, and shell all have different surfaces that we will treat individually. You can choose your favorite image from the many references provided and you can paint either a very colorful or realistic sea turtle painting. You can choose your favorite image from several sketches to complete a beautiful and very colorful watercolor painting. |

Vibrant Tropical Bird of Paradise That Glows
Saturday, April 5th 12 pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting In this class you’ll choose from a variety of beautiful tropical Bird of Paradise images, focusing on their velvety petals of vibrant dark and light colors. You’ll learn to allow pure color to mingle on the paper and create an amazing kaleidoscope of colors as we use Silver Brushes and Golden’s QoR watercolors. We’ll also explore ways to make your backgrounds subtle and yet exciting to complement your beautiful floral painting. Many reference images will be provided and No drawing skills are required. |

Seashell Mosaics in Watercolors
Saturday, April 26th 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting This unique way to portray a wide variety of shells is also a wonderful way to practice wet-into-wet watercolor techniques and blending. First, we’ll lightly draw our shell images, then we begin to design the shells and their backgrounds with light applications of masking fluid using a unique process with a fine-line applicator. You can create one larger shell image of your choice or a variety of smaller shells in one painting. Finally, we’ll paint our backgrounds to make our designs even more exciting. |

A Rustic Barn in the Summer
Sunday, May 4th 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting Capture the beauty and charm of weathered buildings. Paint may fade and iron may rust, but the character of buildings strengthens with age. You will work on developing perspective in your buildings and in capturing the charm of these old barns with their weather wood and peeling paint. Numerous watercolor techniques will be employed as we paint this scene using Golden’s QoR watercolors and Silver Watercolor Brushes. The loose background will add a touch of realism with soft wet-into-wet trees. No drawing skills are required. |

We will use watercolors to create the varied shades of yellow & greens, & the flower’s trademark textured center will be developed with a variety of watercolor mediums and brusho crystals. Stained Glass Effect of Transparent Colors Through the Trees
Saturday, June 7th 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting You’ll work with brilliant colors and textures as you capture the splendor of vibrant color streaming through the trees. This is an excellent lesson for practicing wet-in-wet color blending as you create vibrant colors in this beautiful abstract landscape. |

Sun-Drenched in Watercolor
Saturday, Jun 21st 12pm - 3pm $55 or $70 with all supplies including an 11x14 mat for your finished painting You’ll create a painting of cacti basking in the desert sun, with their deep green body exploding with vivid flowers in your choice of colors. You will paint shadows, rough textures, and softly glazed petals to make your painting feel as if it is coming alive with the delicate flowers. We will apply several different watercolor techniques such as wet-into-wet, glazing, charging, and adding salt and splatter. A reference drawing will be provided, so no drawing skills are required. |

Watercolor Supply List
The following is a list of necessary materials for our watercolor workshops and classes. Professional-grade materials are highly recommended & essential for good results.
You don’t need to buy new supplies, but your paintings and your enjoyment will only be as good as the tools you use.
REQUIRED SUPPLIES:
WATERCOLOR PAPER: A Cold-Pressed or Rough, good quality 100% cotton watercolor paper is essential.
Arches and Cheap Joe’s Kilimanjaro 140# full sheets, pads or blocks are preferred. Full sheets, 22’x30” sold in multi-packs are more affordable and available online from Cheap Joe’s, Jerry’s Artarama and Blick. The yellow, blue or white covered pads of Student Grade paper sold at Michael’s will not work in our classes.
PALETTE: A full-size watercolor palette with a lid is recommended. Please have your tube paints emptied into your palette and ready to use when you arrive. Your palette should also have an area for mixing your colors or have a separate porcelain palette for mixing. In a pinch, a white dinner plate will do for extra mixing space.
BRUSHES: There is no “magic” watercolor brush.
Please bring an assortment of Round & Flat Watercolor brushes in a variety of sizes. Other specialty brushes will be demonstrated and made available to use if needed in class. Watercolor brushes that are synthetics or blends are fine. Bring what you are most comfortable using. We love the Silver Brush brand.
PAINTS: At Red Brick Art we use & recommend only professional grade tube watercolor paint as opposed to student grade paints.
Our favorite paints are Golden’s QoR Watercolors for their rich, brilliant colors. They flow beautifully and a little goes a long way so they will last much longer. Other professional grade watercolors are available from Holbein, Mission Gold, M.Graham, Daniel Smith, Winsor & Newton & Cheap Joe’s American Journey.
RECOMMENDED COLORS: This is a personal choice, so I am giving suggestions.
Choose a warm (yellow shade) and a cool (blue shade) of each of the primary colors plus any colors you especially enjoy. Select ONE of each color category for starters.
You will need a warm & a cool of red, blue, yellow & green, plus a few earth tones and darks. Also add a few impact colors that may spark your creativity, such as opera & teal.
OTHER NECESSARY SUPPLIES:
Masking tape and a waterproof board or solid surface to secure your watercolor paper.
Paper towels, a terry rag, masking fluid & applicator, an old toothbrush, Mr. Clean magic eraser, scraps of watercolor paper for testing colors, a mechanical pencil for drawing, a kneaded eraser, small water spray bottle, and color wheel for reference.
Red Brick supplies the water containers, light boxes & hair dryers for class.
**You may rent all the needed supplies to use in class for $15 per class session
